Black Sterling Performance Warmbloods is owned and operated by Silvana and John Di Teodoro on a 40 acre horse property situated in the beautiful countryside of Pakenham Upper in Victoria.
For Silvana, the love for horses began as a child which has now grown into a passion. Her first Friesian Warmblood filly was Kardella Anneke which she purchased in March 2000.
Black Sterling has been created to specialise in the breeding of versatile performance Sporthorse foals for dressage. We are committed to not just breed from our mares but to compete them at EA/FEI level dressage.
Passion and patience are some of the fundamental factors at our farm. Healthy rearing conditions and proper schooling that meet the needs of the young horses are also of great importance to Black Sterling.
At Black Sterling, we take pride in everything that we do. We take exceptional pride in our horses and young stock which is clearly demonstrated in the presentation of the horses and property.
The aim in our boutique breeding program is to produce horses of exceptional quality, with natural talent. It is vital that we keep improving the standard of horses produced through each generation.
At Black Sterling it is our goal to provide horses with a strong character combined with high riding ability, exceptional basic gaits and dressage and show jumping qualities for both professional and pleasure riders.
Breeding quality young stock can only be achieved through quality parents. Both the sire and the dam need generations of proven bloodlines behind them. Their type, movement and trainability are also vitally important in determining how their offspring is likely to perform. A correct conformed horse is the base for outstanding performance ability.
Correct feeding and handling of all horses is one of our highest priorities. Of course to maintain horses in peak health and condition, a strict veterinary regime has to be adhered to. Regular worming, vaccinations, hoof care and dental care are all part of our horse care program.
The paddocks are well maintained and fertilized using natural fertilizers with White Lightning and Gallagher electric fencing for all horses and some post and rail. We use a rotation system allowing our paddocks to be harrowed and rested to ensure grass all year round. We also move our cows through all paddocks thus reducing worm infestation.
